Lexington Resident Was Columbia Gas Company Retiree

George Marshall Craft, 73, died Monday, February 8, 2021 at his home.

Born April 16, 1947 in Lexington, he was the son of the late George Payton Craft and Mary Margaret Cox Craft.

George retired from Columbia Gas of Virginia after 30 years on April 30, 2011. He also served as president of his union for several years.

George was a good man who loved his family, his friends and his dog, Ms. Tilly. He loved spending time sitting on his porch and enjoying the view of his beloved mountains.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda Smith Craft, and his daughter, Lora Christine Craft of Lexington.

He is survived by two sisters, Margaret Leigh Harrison (husband, Bob) of Lexington, and Mary Peyton Maher (husband, Tom) of Hershey, Pa. He also has three nieces, Mary Catherine Maher, Meaghan Maher Abbott (husband, JJ), and Gabrielle Harrison, and a nephew, Robert Harrison (wife, Ashton), and special friends, Billy Plogger, Jimmy Higgins and Ben Dowling.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 15 at Oak Grove Cemetery, formerly known as the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexington, with the Rev. Benjamin Dowling Ill officiating. Mask and social distancing will be required per Covid-19 restrictions.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Lauderdale ARP Church, 300 S. Main St., Lexington, VA 24450 or Camp Joy of Virginia, 918 S. Pleasantburg Drive, Suite 106, Greenville, SC 29607.
