Buena Vista Carpenter Dies At Age 44

Kristopher Scott (Scottie) Tomlin, 44, of Buena Vista, Virginia, passed away February 13, 2021 at his home in Buena Vista.

Scottie was born in Rockbridge County on September 25, 1976.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Claude and Glennis Slagle and Garry Scott.

He was a Rockbridge County High School graduate in 1994.

Scottie was a hard worker and pillar in the community who was loved by many.

He was a carpenter and a dedicated employee of MP2 for 26 years. He worked with his longtime friend and colleague, Phil Swisher.

Scottie was a mentor and was respected in his field. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a quick wit, loved to joke, and was proud to be known as one of the guys at his work.

Scottie is survived by his mother, Shena Herring and her husband, David; and his father, John D. Tomlin and his wife, Vanessa. Scottie was a dedicated, committed, loving father to three surviving children. His children were his pride and joy. He had two sons, Kyle Scott Tomlin and Peyton Kristopher Tomlin of Vinton, as well as a daughter, Savannah Lynn Tomlin of Roanoke. Scottie is also survived by his sister, Tina Alford and her husband, Chris; grandmother, Ruby Perdue of Natural Bridge; nephew, Shon Wright of Clifton Forge; and niece, Heleyna Moore of Piedmont, S.C. He is also survived by his loving girlfriend and former high school classmate, Vicki Diaz of Harrisonburg. All of these he loved and touched deeply.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 19 at Green Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas Clark. Public viewing to pay last respects will be at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 17 and Thursday, February 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Masks and social distancing are required.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please donate to a memorial fund for his children at CornerStone Bank. Special thanks to family and friends for the food and the support through this difficult time.
