Vietnam Veteran Was First Baptist Church Of Lexington Member

John Keith Colbert, 73, of Lexington, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at his home.

Born July 22, 1947 in Lexington, he was a son of the late Reid Preston Colbert and Sarah Nicholas Colbert.

John was a member of First Baptist Church of Lexington and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Lexington Police Department for 10 years, later becoming a diesel mechanic with Kenan Advantage Group.

John preferred to spend his time outdoors where he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with friends and family.

John was predeceased by his parents, brother, Baxter Colbert, and sister, Mary Lewis.

Surviving are son, Christopher Colbert (Quinn) of Massachusetts, and a brother, Reid Colbert (Flora) of Lexington.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 12 at Evergreen Cemetery in Lexington with the Rev. McKinley Williams officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the charity of your choice.
