Obituary for Patricia Harper Miller Patricia Harper Miller
Lexington Resident Was Lifelong Member of Lexington Presbyterian Church, Teacher's Aide

Patricia Harper Miller, age 94, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021.

Born and raised in Delhi, N.Y., Pat was the daughter of the late Glen and Margaret Harper. She had a long, very active and happy life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Harper and her husband, Richard (Dick) Miller.

She is survived by her daughters, Christie Nadolski (Keith), Debbie Pollard, and Lorie Hughes (Rodney). In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Megan, Bethany, Lindsey, Kate, Susan, Adam and Andrew; and six great-grandchildren. She is survived as well by two special nieces, Kathy and Pam, and their extended family. The family also wishes to recognize special caregiver, Nancy Byers, who assisted Pat with retaining her independence for so long.

Pat attended Syracuse University prior to her marriage to Dick in 1947. In 1952, a new job for Dick at Washington and Lee University brought them to Lexington. She and Dick remained in Lexington permanently, enjoying the many friends they made and participating in community service.

Much of her life was shaped around Dick's work at W&L, often parenting students far away from home. Pat was an ardent supporter of the W&L athletic program, attending multiple sporting events and welcoming new coaches, taking their families under wing.

She was a lifelong active member of Lexington Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, participating in Ruth Circle, and on various committees. Pat regularly volunteered for the Rockbridge Christmas Basket program, American Red Cross bloodmobile, and served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. For many years she worked as a teacher's aide at Mrs. Fifer's Providence Hill preschool, and enjoyed watching her young students grow to adulthood.

Most special were summer return visits to her hometown and eventual Catskill Mountain lake house which she and Dick built together. They hosted many family members and friends at the cabin. It was the place she loved the most!

A memorial service will be held at Lexington Presbyterian Church on May 22 at 1 p.m. Attendance is by registration through the church office and masks will be required.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lexington Presbyterian Church at 120 S. Main St., Lexington, VA 24450; Rockbridge Christmas Baskets at P. O. Box 1030, Lexington, VA 24450 or The Rockbridge Ballet at P. O. Box 150, Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
