Obituary for Gerald McLaren Pullin Gerald McLaren Pullin
Bath County Native Was Retired Machinist

Gerald McLaren Pullin, 79, of 212 Mountain Lake Dr., Covington, Virginia, died on his birthday, Thursday, April 22, 2021 at his residence.

He was born April 22, 1942 in Bath County, the son of the late Roy Pullin and Geraldine Pullin Carpenter.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his two sons, Gerald M. Pullin Jr. and Robert T. Pullin; one sister, Carol Pullin Kern; a special uncle, Arnold Pullin; and his stepfather, Conway Carpenter.

Mr. Pullin was a retired machinist at Westvaco and formerly at Hercules, Inc., in Research Triangle Park, NC.

He also was a member of the Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue Department. He served as Captain of the rescue squad and Vice President of the Local 675, Covington Papermakers Union. He was an avid hunter as well as a hunter safety instructor.

Gerald considered himself a Christian and was very strong in his beliefs. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, June Henning Pullin; a daughter, Melissa (Eddie) Fields, of Edenton, N.C.; a son, Darek (Beth) Pullin, of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Dustyn Fields, Breann (Sam) Evans, Olivia Pullin, and Ella Pullin; two great-grandchildren, Ty Evans and Trot Evans; a brother, Roger (Shannon) Pullin, of Waynesboro; two sisters, Janet Anderson, of Waynesboro and Linda Burns of Covington; a special uncle, Gene Pullin of Covington; and a host of other extended family.

A funeral service will be held Monday April 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the graveside in Alleghany Memorial Park with Reverend Greg Kropff officiating.

In keeping with the Covid-19 pandemic guidelines, you are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing at all times while attending the visitation. Visitors are encouraged to stop by the funeral home prior to the service to view/sign the book.

The family will receive their friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Arritt Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in Mr. Pullin's name be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
