Obituary for Melissa Martin Lee Melissa Martin Lee
White Sulphur Springs Resident Dies At Age 77

Melissa Martin Lee, 77, of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, passed away on May 30, 2021 from cancer.

She was born on July 21, 1943 in Charleston and was the daughter of the late Luther "Luke" E. Martin and Dohrthy M. Martin of Lewisburg.

She was also preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Melinda Martin Broder of Southern California.

She is survived by her son, C. Taylor Lee and grandchildren Abigail and Clifford, of White Sulphur Springs. She is also survived by Clifford T. Lee, Sr., of Washington, D.C., and her niece, Carrie Broder Geddie, of Raleigh, NC.

Melissa was a teacher for her entire life. After graduating from Greenbrier College in 1961, she attended D.C. Teacher's College and taught in Washington, D.C. public schools in the 1970s and 1980s. In the late 1980's, she returned to Lewisburg, where she owned The Brier Patch School. As an already accomplished teacher, Melissa returned to school to obtain a Masters in Counseling from Marshall University and was an elementary counselor in Union and Covington before retiring. Melissa influenced the lives of so many children and was an incredible resource for families in Greenbrier County and beyond.

Melissa successfully battled colon cancer 26 years ago. She had a keen interest in news and current events, and always stood up for what she felt was right.

Melissa had an incredible eye for interior design and had an antique store in Lewisburg during the 1990s. She looked forward to family vacations with her sister, Melinda, when their children were little, and especially enjoyed visiting the Outer Banks in recent years.

Most importantly, Melissa was a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt and she will be deeply missed by those that knew her.

In keeping with her wishes her body will be cremated and no services are being planned at this time.
