Homemaker Was Millboro Presbyterian Church Member

Gertrude Marie Madison Bethel, age 92, of 43 Forbes Hollow Road, Millboro, Virginia died Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the home of her daughter, Diane, 2464 Cowpasture River Highway in Millboro.

She was born September 8, 1928 in Bath County, Virginia to the late Lloyd William Madison and Pauline Marshall Madison.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of Millboro Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed reading, sewing and gardening and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Warren Bethel in 1995, and three brothers, Lloyd Madison, Jr., George Madison, and Edgar Madison.

She is survived by five daughters, Eleanor B. Wyatt of Radford, Joyce Campbell of Clifton Forge, Diane Wilcher and husband, Mike of Millboro, Jeanie Downey and husband, Buddy of Reedy, WV, and Cheryl Anderson and husband, Alan of Stuarts Draft; two sons, Floyd Bethel and wife, Louise of Grottoes, and Dallas Bethel and wife, Linda of Millboro; three sisters, Thelma Madison of Millboro, and Barbara Madison and Shirley Madison, both of Staunton; 16 grandchildren; and a number of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Millboro Presbyterian Church in Millboro with Gertrude's nephew, Josh Madison officiating. Interment will follow in Millboro Christian Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church.

Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling arrangements.
