Bethesda Presbyterian Church Member Was VDOT Retiree

James Lloyd (J.L.) Clemmer Jr. of Lexington, Virginia, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Born December 19, 1937 in Augusta County, he was a son of the late James Lloyd Clemmer Sr. and Elizabeth Patterson Clemmer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Bonnie VanderVeer Clemmer, and two brothers, Dennis Clemmer and Larry Clemmer.

He is survived by two sons, Richard and wife, Becky, Bobby and wife, Karen; five granddaughters, Jeannie Hite and husband, Derrick, Katie Clemmer, Macie Saddinton and husband, Neal, Kennedy Clemmer and Jaydyn Clemmer; one great-granddaughter, Haylie Hite; a brother, Donnie Clemmer; two sisters-in-law, Judy Swann and Pam Clemmer and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

J.L. was a long time member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, elder and a trustee. He retired from VDOT with 32 years of service in 1991.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24 at Bethesda Presbyterian Cemetery by the Rev. Fred Noll.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 90 Bethesda Road, Rockbridge Baths, VA 24473, or the Rockbridge Baths Volunteer Fire Department, 5024 Maury River Road, Rockbridge Baths, VA 24473.
