Berlin Native Was Covington Resident

Monika Waultraud Rettig Gilkeson, 80, of 3921 Potts Creek Road, Covington, Virginia, died Friday, July 23, 2021 in the Brian Center Nursing Home at Low Moor.

Mrs. Gilkeson was born May 29, 1941 in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of the late Willie and Martha Strasdeck Rettig.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Klaus Rettig.

She was a member of Pinnell Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Joe Gilkeson of Covington; her daughter, Nicole Pendleton and her husband, Raymond of Daleville; her granddaughter, Eva Pendleton of Daleville; her grandson, Grant Pendleton of Daleville and her nieces and nephews in Germany.

The funeral service will be held Monday, July 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. David Brown officiating.

Entombment will be made in the Alleghany Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive their friends for one hour before the service at Arritt Funeral Home.
