Iron Gate Resident Was Homemaker, Popular Area Babysitter

Irma Gaynell Snead Sorrels, age 85, of 202 Ninth Street, Iron Gate, Virginia died Sunday, August 1, 2021 at the Alleghany Health and Rehab Center, Clifton Forge.

She was born April 1, 1936 in August County to the late Volney Winfield Snead and Daisy Newton Hayes.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of Kayser Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Irma was a popular babysitter for many area children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Richard Sorrels, Sr.; a grandson, Corry Ryan Sorrels; two great grandchildren, Landon Barnes and Leah Wright; three sisters, Mary Snead, Zelia Coulter, and Elizabeth Poe; two brothers, Albert Snead and Bacil Snead; her mother and father-in-law, Vance and Drotha Sorrels; and a sister-in-law, Jean Snead.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Sorrels-Nicely and husband, Gary Lee of Eagle Rock and Crystal Sorrels Hostetter and husband, Kelly of Iron Gate; a son, Charles Richard "C.R" Sorrels, Jr. and wife, Victoria of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Gladys Bowles of Staunton and Loreen Fauber of Fairfield; five grandchildren, William Christoffer Sorrels, Zachary Chase Sorrels, Anthony Brian Barnes, Jr., Courtney Barnes Wright (Michael) and Daniel Craig Sorrels (Liana); eleven great grandchildren, Novia Foley, Brianna Wright, Camden Sorrels, Huntley Sorrels, Bayleigh Sorrels, Raylan Sorrels, William Sorrels, Jr., Paizlee Barnes, Violet Barnes, Birdie Barnes, and Arian Barnes; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Edith Snedegar officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Kayser Memorial Presbyterian Church.
