Margaret Evelyn Letrud died Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital.

She was the daughter of Edna Mae Falls and Jack Campbell Muterspauch and was born in Rockbridge County.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur Letrud, and her son David Letrud.

Surviving are her daughter, Jaqueline (Phillip) Proctor of Houston, Texas; sister, Nancy (Larry) Bowen of Enterprise, Ore.; grandchildren, Christopher Proctor, Matthew Proctor, Adam Letrud and Donna Letrud; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Letrud and Maeoona Letrud; nephew, Jeffrey Bowen, and niece, Barbara Bowen. She is also survived by her special friend of 35 years, Ann Hiser, and her two furry friends, Baby and Buddy.

Margaret owned Answering Lexington, the first telephone service in Lexington prior to voicemail services. Her clientele included the local real estate offices, veterinarians' offices and small local businesses. She was the "voice" of Lexington.

Margaret was an avid reader of mysteries and volunteered at the Rockbridge Regional Library restoring books and working the monthly book sales. A devoted animal lover, Margaret also volunteered with the Rockbridge SPCA and was a former board member of Kitty Care and Cats Unlimited. Margaret was a strong, smart, feisty woman who led her life very independently.

Margaret requested no funeral service.

Donations may be made in her name to Kitty Care, Cats Unlimited or the Rockbridge SPCA.
