On Monday, Aug. 24, 2021, a bright light was extinguished in Williamsburg, Virginia. Wanda Elizabeth Lewis Swan Munoz, formerly of Natural Bridge, Virginia, died that day at her home.
Wanda entered this world on December 17, 1947 at the old Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington.
She graduated from Natural Bridge High School in 1965 where she was a head cheerleader, voted "Biggest Flirt," and was valedictorian of the class.
William & Mary in Williamsburg was the lucky recipient of Wanda's charms next. In 1969, she graduated from W&M with a BA in sociology and a minor in Spanish. The next stop was Richmond where she was a social worker for Virginia.
Being a traveler, Wanda was always on the move. After Richmond, her life took her to Gaithersburg, Md., Philadelphia, Pa., Sun Valley, Ind., Overland Park, Kansas, and her favorite place of all, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
After returning from Mexico, Wanda went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration as a speech writer. One of the speeches she wrote for the director of the FAA is included in a book written by Ralph Nader.
Wanda had a way with words, not only in print, but also in the way she conveyed kindness and caring in conversation.
She will be missed by family, friends, and the many acquaintances whose life stories she learned after only a few minutes. Wanda was both a friend and a confidant.
Preceding Wanda in death were her father, Johnny Lewis, and three adored first cousins, Dana Haun Leonowicz, Ann Nuckols Page, and John Layne Oblinger.
She is survived by her doting mother, Cora Parker Lewis (Momma Moo) of Natural Bridge; her sister and best friend, Penny Lewis Showalter of Seaford; her brother, Bobby Lewis of Natural Bridge; and her two sons, Alex and Christian Munoz of Swanee, Kansas. In addition, she is survived by too many loving friends to list. They all will miss her deeply.
There will be no memorial service pursuant to Wanda's request. Wanda's remains will be placed close to her Daddy's with a view of Short Hill Mountain. Johnny will love the view and Wanda will be dreaming of what is on the other side.
