Mary Katherine Shoemaker Helmick, 73, of Lewisburg, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness Sunday, September 26, 2021, with her daughter by her side.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Lake Shoemaker; one daughter, Karen Sue Helmick; two sisters, Libby Williams and Margaret Shoemaker; and a brother, Tommy Shoemaker.

Mary was a retired nurse who worked many places in Virginia and West Virginia. She spent the years of her life with the residents of the Lewisburg Manor playing bingo and sharing lifetime stories and will be missed by many people. She loved to quilt, sew, needlepoint, visit, talk and eat with everyone.

She leaves behind a daughter, Victoria Lynn Baxley; a sister, Jackalee Palmer (Don) from NC; a sister, Debby Holbrook (Bill) of Virginia; a brother, Teddy Shoemaker (Tammy) of Rainelle; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville, with Rev. Greg Scott officiating.
