Obituary for Virginia B. (Gin) Blake Virginia B. (Gin) Blake
Former West Virginia Daily News Associate Editor Was Celebrated Ronceverte Resident

Virginia B. (Gin) Blake, 99 years -10 months - 18 days, passed away on November 2, 2021 at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV.

She was born December 15, 1921 in Ronceverte, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Charles A. Butler, Jr. and Lola Margaret Reynolds Butler.

She was the widow of Norman B. Blake, founder and publisher of West Vrginia Daily News, where she was Associate Editor.

Gin was educated in Ronceverte Schools and attended Marshall College.

Some of her accomplishments were being the first female mayor in Greenbrier County, serving the City of Ronceverte 1973 to 1979 and 1991 to 1994. She was involved with the City's first public housing, Library, first boundary changes and the county landfill. She participated in Island Park refurbishing in 1969 and William A. Boone Memorial Foundation to the Park's enhancement.

Gin was named Woman of the Year by the Lewisburg Business and Professional Woman's Club in 1979, received a Certificate of Appreciation from Eastern Greenbrier Jaycees, named Manager of the Year for Elderly FHA housing in 1988, was Ronceverte Citizen of the Year in 1992, received Celebrate Women award from the GFWC, West Virginia Woman's Club, 64 year member of the Ronceverte Womans Club and Charter member of the GVMC "Pink Ladies".

She served as president of Ronceverte Merchants Association, co-chaired Ronceverte's Centennial Celebration in 1982; served on Board of Directors of the Ronceverte River Festival; Chairman of the Board of Shenandoah Manor, Ronceverte; Chairman of Board of Trustees of Ronceverte Public Library; Manager of Riverview Apartments for 17 years and was Senior Warden of Church of the Incarnation, Episcopal, Ronceverte, and also held all other positions on Vestry.

Other than her parents and husband, Gin was preceded in death by her son, William B. Blake and her sister, Sara B. Bethel.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Blake Boswell of Ronceverte; grandsons, Troy L. Boswell and C. Brad Boswell; great granddaughter, Brooke A. Boswell.

Funeral services for Gin will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday November 8, 2021 at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Ronceverte.

The family will receive family and friends on Sunday November 7, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes that contributions be made to the Ronceverte Public Library, 500 Min Street West, Ronceverte, WV 24970. The family wishes that everybody follow Covid Guidelines.
