Kent Church Lawrence, 91, of Vesuvius, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his home state of North Carolina with family on Monday, November 15, 2021.

He is joyfully with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born March 12, 1930 in Ashe County, N.C., he was the son of the late Clifford and Crystal Laurence.

Kent was a long-standing member and trustee of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Wood Lawrence, almost exactly one year to the date, and by one sister, Sarah Johnston; two brothers, John and Jack Laurence, and by granddaughter, Mary Beth Hoffman.

Surviving are four children, Danny Laurence (Pam), Ricky Laurence (Kim), Cain Davis (Jackie) and Robin Conner (Richard L.); 10 grandchildren, Trevor Laurence (Sylvia), Abby Overstreet (David), Tricia Roberts (Bruce), Angela Hamilton (Marc), Quentin Davis (Kristin), Jason Davis, Scottie Davis, Patrick Davis (Mary), Richard A. Conner, and Jaime Showalter (Andrew); 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters Mary June Kimberlin and Brenda Laurence. He was loved and cherished by many others.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 20 at Irish Creek Cemetery with Chris Guyer, pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, officiating.
