Obituary for Sybil Lucille Reed Downey Sybil Lucille Reed Downey
Retired Registered Nurse Dies At Age 82

Sybil Lucille Reed Downey, age 82, of 4614 Nicelytown Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Saturday, December 18, 2021 at her residence.

She was born February 14, 1939 in West Virginia to the late Homer Reed and Winnie Price Keene.

She was a retired registered nurse.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Downey; and a step-daughter, Julie Downey Gifford.

She is survived by a daughter, Pat Bennett-Wilhelm and her two children, Spencer Wilhelm and Mary Kathren Wilhelm; two sons, Steve Bennett and his wife, Debbie and Doug Bennett; four step-children, Steve Downey, Sherry and her husband, Michael Nicely, David Downey and his wife, Iryna, and Melinda and her husband, Rick Stapleton; and a step son-in-law, Darrell Gifford.

Sybil was many things throughout her long life. She was always the hardest worker because she wanted to be nothing but the best in all her endeavors, including her time as a nurse and as the manager of her rental house business.

She was a mother and a mother figure to many. Anyone who knew Sybil knows that she was always the most willful person in the room and always knew best. Anyone close to her knew that she was willful because she wanted to do what was best for those she loved.

She was a very dedicated story teller. You could sit down with her at any time of the day and she would have a dozen stories ready to tell. In Sybil's eyes, she was above all a loving protective grandmother. Sometimes she had a strange way of showing it, but she had a lot of love for those around her. She was extremely loved by all those who truly knew her.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, handled the arrangements.
