Shawn Renee (Shawnie) Persinger, age 52, of 4323 Dunlap Creek Road, Covington, Virginia died Saturday, February 5, 2022 at her residence.

She was born April 28, 1969 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Brenda Darlene Wilcher Persinger and Jack Nelson Persinger.

Shawn was a registered nurse for LewisGale Hospital in Low Moor. She was a graduate of Alleghany High School and Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, School of Nursing.

She enjoyed reading, the outdoors, kayaking, and looking after her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl and Bertha Wilcher and Marvin and Agnes Fridley Via.

She is survived by her father, Jack Persinger of Covington; a daughter, Marisa Brogan and fiancé, James Groves of Fincastle; a son, Hunter Smith and fiancé, Abby Seldomridge of Covington; a sister, Kristie Schultz and husband, Eric of Covington; a brother, Jack "Jay" Persinger, II of Covington; two grandchildren, Madeline Groves and Karson Smith; nieces and nephews, Alexis, Connor, Emmalyn Schultz and Riley Persinger.

In keeping with her wishes, her body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the family's residence. Friends may call the home of her father, 519 Brentwood Drive, Covington.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, handled the arrangements.
