Covington Resident Was Calvary Baptist Church Member

Margie Smith Thompson, age 92, of 913 Dunbrack Road, Covington, Virginia died Monday, March 7, 2022 at the residence of her daughter-in-law.

She was born April 1, 1929 in Buchanan, Virginia to the late Eddie Preston and Bertie C. Broughman Smith.

Margie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Covington.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvie William "Pete" Thompson; a son, William Robert "Bill" Thompson and numerous brothers and sisters.

Margie is survived by a son, Gary P. Thompson and wife, Frances of Moss Run; a daughter-in-law, Mary Wilson Thompson of Clifton Forge; a sister, Jackie Bare and husband, Edgar of Silver Springs, Maryland; six grandchildren, Cherie Austin and husband, David, Marisa Reed and husband, Darren, Renee McCoy and husband, Stuart, David Thompson and wife, Tammy, Matthew Thompson and wife, Sally, and Lisa Thompson Bryant; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; neighbors, Marvin and Jenny Eggleston; and a special friend, Helen Gaylor.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Dean Bowser officiating. Interment will follow at Fletchers Chapel, Covington. Pallbearers will be Casey Thompson, Alex Reed, Brandon Thompson, Stuart McCoy, Darren Reed, and Doug Arrington. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions take the form of donations to Calvary Baptist Church, 113 North Wills Avenue, Covington, Virginia 24426.
