Obituary for Mary Virginia Wood Mary Virginia Wood
LHS Grad Was Part-Time LPD Dispatcher

Mary Virginia Wood, 74, of Buena Vista, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, March 25, 2022.

Mary was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on December 11, 1947. She was the daughter of the late Ricie H. Horn and Carmela "Millie" Germanio Horn.

She was a Lexington High School graduate.

Mary was a retired 911 dispatcher and supervisor of the Buena Vista Police Department. She had also served as a member of the Buena Vista Rescue Squad and a part-time dispatcher for the Lexington Police Department. Mary loved dispatching and always had a heart for the safety of the officers she worked with and true concern for every fire and rescue call.

Mary loved the Lord and was a member of Kerrs Creek Baptist Church. She had a strong faith and for all who read this she would like you to remember, "Jesus loves you." She was always there for her family even when she was sick. She was a great listener and encourager and often spent hours on the phone with her daughter. She loved her car, Pearl, and her grand kitties.

Mary is survived by her husband of 54 years, Vawter Eugene "Gene" Wood; daughter, Angela Jean Bennington and special son-in-law, Todd Andrew Bennington; her sister in Christ and lifelong friend, Brenda Craft; special friends, Clint and Cara Eutsler and Jerry and Debbie Knick; as well as her entire church family at Kerrs Creek Baptist Church.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, at Bolling, Grose & A Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bryan Volpe officiating. Special speakers will be Angela Bennington and Clint Eutsler. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
