Good News Church Charter Member Was Longtime Children's Church Director

Mary Alice Hipes Meadows went to her heavenly home on April 5, 2022.

She was born on March 24, 1925 to George Cline Hipes and Ruth Harris-Hipes in Glen Wilton, Virginia.

She was the widow of Paul Lee Meadows, who preceded her in death in 1987. Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Wood E. Lugar; sisters, Ellen Biggs, Lillie Scruggs, Doris (Dot) Williams, Rebecca Cline Montgomery and infant sister, Betty Ann Hipes; one brother, George E. Hipes; and a very special niece, Joan Gail Biggs. Stepsisters, Alice Thurston, Nellie Riddlebarger, Helen Kelly and stepbrother, Dennis E. Lugar also preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Danny Lee Meadows (Pam) with whom she made her home for the past three and half years, Lawrence P. Meadows (Cindy) and one daughter, Youlanda Ann Austin (Tommy); grandsons, Lawrence P. Meadows, Jr., Paul Meadows (Crystal), George L. Meadows (Julie), Isaac Meadows (Jessica) and Thomas Shane Gunter; granddaughters, Patricia Agger (Chuck), Brandi Faris (Chris) and Angela Meadows; great grandchildren, Edward, Evan, Ethan, Isabella, Carson, Audrey, Brody, Miley, Regan, Peyton, Shawn, Nathan, Roman, Syanna, Garrett, Grayson and Gabriella; twin great-great grandsons, Cameron and Sawyer Murphy; step great grandchildren, Paige, Callie, Chip, Isaac, Kyle, Samantha, Sydney, Jena and Buddy; four spiritual grandchildren, Sylvia Coats, Marla Tombs, Scott and Michael Jennings. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Ray E. Meadows (Nancy).

She was employed by the Industrial Rayon, Jane Colby and retired from Halmode.

She was one of the founders of Good News Church and also was a charter member. She served as a Deaconess and Trustee member of the church board. Mrs. Meadows was a Primary Sunday School teacher for forty-one years and Children's Church director and teacher for twenty-five years. She loved all children and wants to be remembered for the love she had for working with them.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2022 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Petty officiating, assisted by Pastor Steve Noel. Interment will follow in Locust Bottom Cemetery, Glen Wilton.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Smith, Ernie Williams, Juan Ramos, Tim Hyler, Wayne Lamb and Kenny Armentrout. Alternate pallbearers will be Jody Morris, Temple Kessinger and Shane Wolfe.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Memorials Processing, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-9959.
