Sweet Chalybeate Resident Dies At Age 81

Charlotte Grey Kersey Cook, 81, of Sweet Chalybeate, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at LewisGale Hospital Allegheny in Low Moor, Virginia.

Born February 8, 1942 at Alleghany, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Wyatt and Aretta Bostic Kersey.

She graduated from Dunlap High School and was a homemaker.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert Cook; brother, H.B. Kersey; sisters, Ina Mae Webb and Pat Macey.

Surviving are three sons, Jeffery (Margaret) Cook of Sweet Chalybeate, VA, John (Mary) Cook of Gap Mills, WV and Kevin Cook of Charleston, WV; daughter, Kelly Cook of Sweet Chalybeate, VA; granddaughter, Chelsea Cook of Sweet Springs, WV; grandson, Robert Cook of Sweet Chalybeate, VA; brother, Leon (Bethel) Kersey of Martinsburg, WV; two sisters, Jean (Jack) Schumaker of Sweet Springs, WV and Sharon (Mike) Hanson of Richmond, VA.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs with Rev. Mark Smearman officiating. Burial will follow in Sweet Chalybeate Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Doug Howell, Spencer Cook, Charlie Cochran, Joseph Cochran, David Schumaker, and Stacey Clarkson. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Harmon, Ricky Lucas and Shawn Kersey.
