Herbert V. Mays, 92, of Vesuvius died Thursday, June 8, 2006 at his residence.

Born June 1, 1914 in Rockbridge County, son of the late Luther Jackson and Nancy Jane Clark Mays.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Community Church and had retired from Reeves Brothers in 1980.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ester Pultz Mays and daughter, Kathy Jean Mays.

He is survived by his four daughters: Lois V. Troxell of Vesuvius, Pauline J. Nuckols and husband Joe of Buena Vista, Donna E. Reid and husband Lester of Vesuvius and Judy Ann Reid of Vesuvius; three sons: Franklin E. Mays and wife Della of Buena Vista, David B. Mays and wife Glenda of Vesuvius and Jerry B. Mays and wife Pat of Buena Vista; 22 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; and a sister, Effie Clark of Charlottesville.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2006 from the graveside in Irish Creek Cemetery with Rev. Wyatt Mayes officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2006 at the Lomax Funeral Home.
