"True Soldier Of Christ" Called Home

On the evening of August 19, 2006, Bertie Rae Corley Golden was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ.

A soft rain began to fall as the angels in heaven wept for joy for a true soldier of Christ was called home. After the rain subsided, the skies cleared to welcome her to heaven.

Mrs. Golden was born on March 9, 1930 to Ethel M. Corley and George Corley in Dartmore, West Virginia. They preceded her in death, as well as one brother, George Corley, Jr.

Bertie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles B. Golden, Sr. of Buena Vista, Virginia, her only sister, Anna Corley Werner of Belington, WV and the Golden's six children survive her as well: Pam C. Slowkowski and husband, Peter, Berea, KY; Charles B. Golden, Jr. and wife, Trina, of Buena Vista, VA; Sherri Rae Fridley and husband, Jeff, of Churchville, VA; Mary M. Kelly of Strongsville, Ohio; David W. Golden and wife, Kathleen, of Euclid, Ohio; and Rebecca G. Raynal and husband, John, of Natural Bridge Station, VA; grandchildren: Christopher Golden, Scottie Golden, Todd Golden and fiance, Candy McCormick, Megan Wines and husband, Shanon, Luke and Jacob Raynal, Nicole and Jessie Kelly, Jeremy, Zack and Maggie Golden, Christina Lawhorne, Amber, Jessie, Becky Heath; great grandchildren: Kayla Woodward, Dylan Golden, Jenna and Trevor Golden.

Mrs. Golden worked various jobs, but her true passion was sewing and caring for her family. She was described by many people as a rock for her family and friends. Those who knew her will remember her as sweet, kind, and a friend to all.

After she and her husband retired to West Virginia, they became foster parents to nine needy children in Barbour County. Recently, they returned to Buena Vista to be closer to their family.

Friends may celebrate her life by attending her memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Harrison Funeral Chapel, Tuesday, August 22, 2006. Following interment, a gathering will take place at the Lexington Church of Christ.
