Monterey Resident, Highland-Bath Farm Bureau Retiree, Dies At Age 74

Carol Irene (Terry) Waybright, age 74, of Monterey, Virginia, unexpectedly passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

She was born August 6, 1950, in Big Valley, a daughter of the late Charles "Ernest" and Daisy Margaret (Doyle) Terry.

A Christian who put church first and foremost, Carol was a lifelong member of Hamilton Chapel Advent Christian Church and attended Victory Chapel Advent Christian Church. There at Victory Chapel she served as superintendent, taught adult Sunday school, and was a member of the W.H. and F.M. Society.

Known for her caring nature, she always ensured her family and friends were well taken care of.

Additionally, she enjoyed playing bingo and having her morning coffee at Fast Break, and as the chief's wife, was very active in the Highland County Volunteer Fire Department.

Above all, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

Carol had worked at Aileen, Jessico, and as an aide at the school. She ultimately retired from Highland-Bath Farm Bureau, where she served as administrative assistant for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Marie May.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 39 years, Elmer R. Waybright of Monterey; son, Scott Green of Big Valley; daughter, Crystal Dawn Waybright of Monterey; brothers, Lowell and Tommy Terry, both of Big Valley; sister, Linda Hodge of Warm Springs; grandsons, Jacob Scott Green and Charles Daniel Green; special granddaughters, Sadie, Journey and Molly Rowe; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as numerous beloved friends.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Monday, May 12, 2025 at Obaugh Funeral Home with pastor Mike Puffenbarger officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Caileb Ryder, Timmy Hodge, Louie Kincaid, Billie Gray Terry, Scott Duncan, Andy Terry, Barry Moyers and Herb Lightner.

The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the funeral home.
