Obituary for Troy Lee Wimer Troy Lee Wimer
World War II Veteran Was Farmer, Carpenter

Troy Lee Wimer, 83, of Raphine, died on Sunday, November 5, 2006.

He was born May 12 1923 in Highland County, a son of Johnny Lee and Lydia Ann Propst Wimer.

He was a member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church and the Fairfield Senior Citizens.

Mr. Wimer served in World War II with the U.S. Army foot infantry in the European Theatre. He then farmed for a few years in Rockbridge County. He was employed at VMI as a carpenter for a short time and retired from VMI as a security police officer with 30 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife of 35 years, Stella S. Mohler Wimer; an infant son and daughter and one brother, Elbert Wimer of Talmage, Ohio.

Survivors include the mother of his children: Mildred P. Gordon of Staunton, VA; four sons: William Dale Wimer of Powhatan, VA; Robert Lee Wimer of Stuarts Draft, VA; Ray Dell Wimer, Sr. of Raphine, VA; and Troy Leroy Wimer of Fairfield, VA; two sisters: Turetha Hiner of San Antonio, TX and Ethel Reamey of Monterey, VA; three brothers: Dennis Wimer of Nashville, TN; Donald Wimer of Poquson, VA; and Jerry R. Wimer of New Bern, NC: 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild; one stepdaughter, Virginia M. McCormack of Rockbridge Baths; one stepson, Odie H. Mohler of Lexington; 4 step grandchildren; and 3 step great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, P. O. Box 948, Lexington, Va. 24450.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2006 in the Fairfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Simmons and Rev. Gibb Hale officiating. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, Rockbridge Baths. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
