Obituary for Alice Carte Hartis Alice Carte Hartis
Former Rockbridge Supervisor, School Board Member Dies At Age 79

Alice Carte Hartis, 79, of Lexington, died Friday, November 17, 2006 in the Blue Ridge Christian Home, Raphine.

She was born February 9, 1927 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, daughter of the late Roy and Rinda Hulbert Carte.

She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

She was former owner of the Greenery in Lexington and was a columnist and reporter for the News-Gazette, former member of the Lexington School Board and the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors and was very active in her community in many ways.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin "Frank" Hartis, Jr. and her granddaughter, Jeanne Marie Tysinger.

She is survived by her children: Geoffrey C. Rabe of Palm Beach, FL; A. John Rabe of Fort Walton Beach, FL; Jeanne R. Tysinger of Harrisonburg and Amanda R. Cline of Grottoes, VA; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; step children: Patricia H. Ford of Lookout Mountain, TN; Judith H. Easton of Lake Mary, FL and first husband, William Rabe of Lynchburg; and the special staff of the Blue Ridge Christian Home.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with Father Joseph D'Aurora and Melvin Bender officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Lomax Funeral Home, Buena Vista.
