Obituary for Myrtle Rucker Ryder Myrtle Rucker Ryder
Covington Resident, Former Homestead Resort Secretary and Emory United Methodist Church Member, Dies At Age 94

Mrs. Myrtle Rucker Ryder, age 94, of Hot Springs, Virginia, died Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Salem Health and Rehabilitation, Salem.

She was the wife of the late Herbert Paul Ryder, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2014.

Mrs. Ryder was born September 8, 1931, in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Noah Jacob Rucker and Birdie Nestor Rucker.

She was a lifetime resident of this community.

Myrtle was a graduate of Covington High School and was employed as an secretary by the Homestead Resort for a number of years.

Mrs. Ryder was a member of Emory United Methodist Church.

In her spare time, she loved crocheting beautiful items for family and friends.

Mrs. Ryder is survived by a son, Herbert Paul Ryder, Jr. and wife, Linda of Covington; two daughters, Vickie Lynn Ryder of Hot Springs and Karen Ryder Ward and husband, Marlon of Hot Springs; three grandsons, Christopher Paul Ryder, Anthony Chad Ward and wife, Julia and Jared Alan Ward and wife, Dani; four great grandchildren, Isa Ward, Luka Ward, Nathaniel Ward and Gabriel Ward; two nieces, Sherry Kimberlin and Sharon Rucker Robertson and husband, Howard Lynn.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ryder was preceded in death by two brothers, infant, David Rucker and Noah Warren Rucker and a nephew, Warren Alan "Chuckie" Rucker.

A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Emory United Methodist Church, 7119 Jackson River Road, Hot Springs, VA 24445 or Falling Spring Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 880, Covington, VA 24426.
