Former Lexington Resident, Retired General Telephone Representative, Dies At Age 79

Joyel (Dianne) Gregory Steckley, 79, of Lake Placid, Florida, entered Heaven on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Dianne was born on June 25, 1946, in Lexington, Virginia. She was the daughter of Juanita "Snookie" (Bryant) and Charles "Tom" Gregory Jr.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles "Tom" Gregory III.

Dianne moved from Natural Bridge High School to Sarasota High in 1964 for her senior year. After graduation, she became a longtime employee of the General Telephone Phone Company, beginning as an operator and retiring as a business representative. It was there that she met Jim, her husband of nearly 57 years.

Dianne has been a resident of Lake Placid for the last 14 years, moving here from Pembroke Pines, Fla.

She loved reading books, completing crossword puzzles and yard work. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Dianne is survived by her loving husband, Jim; her devoted daughter, Tami Sullivan (Rick); and two grandchildren, Shane and Riley.

A funeral service to celebrate Dianne's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, at the Scott Funeral Home, 504 W. Interlake Boulevard, Lake Placid by Pastor David Mullins. The family will receive friends a half hour prior to service time. Dianne will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
