Betty was born on February 10, 1939 in Eagle Rock to the late George G. and Catherine Zimmerman Burgess.

She retired from banking after 44 years with the Bank of Botetourt, formerly Eagle Rock Bank, and was a longtime member of Eagle Rock United Methodist Church.

She loved singing and sang in the Botetourt Chorus. Betty enjoyed her flowers and making flower arrangements, but especially loved spending time with her sisters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Wright; a brother, George G. Burgess, Jr.; two sisters, Ellen Jane Fulton and Virginia Burgess Newcomb; an infant granddaughter, Jennifer R. Dudding; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa H. Dudding.

Betty is survived by a son, Delbert A. Dudding, Jr. (Judy) of Troutville; two sisters, Patsy Craft of Iron Gate and Kitty Bryant (Danny) of Eagle Rock; a granddaughter, Meredith Dudding; a step grandson, Rick Horne (Cary); two step great grandchildren, Noah Horne and Ava Horne; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 12:00 noon in Eagle Rock United Methodist Church with Reverend Ray Sandifer officiating. Interment will be made privately in Eagle Rock Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Eagle Rock United Methodist Church or the Eagle Rock Fire and Rescue.
