Obituary for Halstead McCown Dunlap Halstead McCown Dunlap
World War II Veteran Served As Modine Chief Inspector For 20 Years

Halstead McCown Dunlap, 85, of Lexington, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007.

He was born March 11, 1921 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Clarence Milton Dunlap and Margaret McCown Dunlap.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Webster Alphin Dunlap.

Mr. Dunlap was Chief Inspector at Modine for 20 years, was an Army veteran of World War II, was a member of the Kerrs Creek Ruritan & Rotary Clubs, and served on the Rockbridge County School Board and the Rockbridge Farmers Cooperative Board.

Throughout his life, he raised beef cattle on the family farm.

He is survived by three sons: Halstead McClue (Hootie) Dunlap of Lexington; William Halstead Dunlap of Sterling, VA; and Thomas Henry Dunlap of South Boston, Va; a sister, Mary Jane Snyder of Lexington; and a brother, Thomas M. Dunlap of Lexington; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 23, 2007 at the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Martin L. Stokes officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the New Monmouth Church social hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church, 2348 W. Midland Trail, Lexington, Va. 24450.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
