Obituary for Betty Louise Kemper Betty Louise Kemper
Covington Native, General Electric Retiree and Westminister Presbyterian Church Member, Dies At Age 90

Betty Louise Kemper, 90, of Roanoke, Virginia, and formerly of Covington, Virginia, relocated to her Heavenly home on Friday, June 12, 2026.

Born on December 1, 1935, in Covington, Betty was the daughter of the late Lewis Eller and Edith Myrtle Dew Kemper.

After graduating from Covington High School, she went on to attend Appalachian Bible Institute (ABI) in Bradley, West Virginia, earning a diploma in Christian education. This led to a staff position at ABI which took her to the public schools in West Virginia sharing her Christian faith, something that continued after she left ABI.

She was a longtime member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church in Roanoke where, along with children’s ministry, she sang in the choir.

In the spring of 1996, Betty retired from General Electric in Salem after 30 years of service.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph DeWitt Kemper, Richard Nobel Kemper, Paul Eugene Kemper, Wanda Corrine Kemper Hepler, Wilda Maxine Kemper Byer, and Glenna Jewell Kemper Anderson.

Left behind to miss her are numerous nieces and nephews and their children, of which she had an everlasting impact, and a special friend, Glenna Goins of Boones Mill.

Betty will be remembered as a lover of music, dogs, her family, and her God.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Oakey’s North Chapel in Roanoke with the family receiving friends an hour before. Interment will follow the service at Alleghany Memorial Park in Covington.

Pall bearers will be Dale Byer, Steve Byer, Ethan Bunch, Chase Reed, Nick Humphreys, and Ryan Wright, with Christian King and Eli King serving as honorary pall bearers.
