Army Veteran Worked At Burlington For More Than 42 Years

Calvin William Smith, 72, of Natural Bridge, died Monday, February 19, 2007 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by his devoted, loving wife, Ollie Roberts Smith; children: Gloria Henson and husband, Jerry; Kathy Mills and friend, Norman Webster; Connie Smith and Eddie Wymer; Calvin D. Smith and wife, Amy; Gary Roberts and wife, Kathy; and Donald Smith; grandchildren: Jason, Lewis, Jeffrey, Abby and Adam; great grandchild, Jessica; and special canine companion, Skippy; brothers: Cecil J. Smith and wife, Doris; Harold Smith and wife, Lois; Albert Smith and Charlotte; and sister, Josephine E. Smith; and many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Alvin Sargent; and his many coffee-drinking buddies at the Natural Bridge Exxon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emmett R. Smith; mother, Josephine H. Smith; and brothers: Emory R. Smith and Malcolm F. Smith.

He loved farming, fishing, hunting, NASCAR racing and bluegrass music and was a great storyteller.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He retired from Burlington Industries after over 42 years of service.

He was loved dearly by his wife and children and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the High Bridge Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
