Obituary for Cher McCoy Cher McCoy
Lexington Resident, Pack and Mail Owner, Dies At Age 80

Cher McCoy, 80, of Lexington, Virginia, died Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Catawba Hospital.

She was born November 23, 1945, to Gabrielle Grindle Lewis and the late Lynwood Grindle in Bath, Maine.

She was married to Steve McCoy, but had been separated from him for nearly a year.

She was raised by her mother in Portsmouth, N.H., where her mother worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

She did not have children but was very involved with the children of her sister, Laurie Strong.

Cher graduated from school with a business education.

She lived and worked in New York for several years. She moved to California where she worked for over 20 years in sales for several businesses. She has been in Virginia for over 30 years selling pet products from her small stores, internet sales and providing obedience training for dogs.

She also owned the Pack and Mail business in Lexington.

Cher’s health had a major decline at the end of February. After six hospital stays and major vascular surgery, her health did not have sufficient time to recover from each event. She was also dealing with underlying dementia at the time.

A funeral was held at St. Patrick’s Church on June 18. Burial was at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Harrison Funeral Home.
