Blanche Joanna Royer Meade, 90, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026.

She was born May 21, 1936, daughter of the late Paul Alvin Royer and Glenice Drumheller Royer.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, David Lewis Thomas Meade; brother, Jimmy Royer, and grandson, Joseph Paul “JP” Cash.

They were married 53 years at the time of David’s death in 2011.

Joanna graduated from Parry McCluer High School in Buena Vista in 1953. Later in life, she briefly attended James Madison University.

Joanna worked many years at Sears in Buena Vista, and later retired from Washington and Lee University.

Joanna was a 50-plus-year member at Charlotte Motor Speedway and an avid NASCAR fan.

She also had multiple loving companions, her late Boston Beagle, Zoey, and her young Boston Terrier, Tannie.

Surviving are her three daughters, Paula Cash (Greg), Deanna Meade, and Kaye Meade-Hamilton (Clyde); her grandchildren, Juliette (Peter) and Jake Cash (Alora), Lillian G. Ayres (Zach), and Joanna and David Hamilton (Rheanna); great-grandchild, Sawyer Kyger, and her sisterin- law Cindy Royer, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, June 25, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with Pastor Garrett Clower officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., with the service beginning at 3 p.m.
