Obituary for Rachel Reed Ayers Rachel Reed Ayers
Buchanan Resident, Lithia Baptist Church Member and Happy's Homemade Gifts Creator, Dies At Age 91

Rachel Reed Ayers, 91, of Buchanan, Virginia, passed away Monday, June 22, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Fay Ayers; parents, P. Wyatt and Elizabeth Reed; sisters, Margaret Hatcher and Mary Jo Myers; and brother, William Reed.

She was a lifelong member of Lithia Baptist Church teaching Sunday School, leader of the WMU, and always greeting folks warmly with a smile anytime the doors were open.

Rachel served many years at Gladrags as a hemmer and Happy’s Flea Market, selling various homemade gifts. She could also be found helping out some at Solomon’s or dropping off her homemade treasures to her friends and family.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Tony Ayers; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Dave Moran; grandchildren, Andrew and Chelsea Moran, Julia Moran, Jesse and Maria Ayers, and Elizabeth Ayers; great-grandchildren, Adeline Moran, Grayson, Jack, and Sylvia Ayers; former daughter-in-law, Terrie Brammer; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her Lithia Baptist Church family.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. with memorial services at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with Rev. Leonard Southern and Rev. Marc Barber officiating. There will be a time for refreshments after the service next door at the Botetourt Event Center. Flowers are beautiful, however the family wishes donations be made at Solomon’s Mission in Buchanan.
