Union Resident, Former Lexington Police Officer, Dies At Age 76

Betty Jean Dunlap Pusey, 76, passed peacefully surrounded by love on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at her home in Union, West Virginia.

She lived a long and meaningful life centered on faith, family, community and hard work.

She was the cherished daughter of Loreane Barger, late stepfather, Lloyd Barger and the late Robert K. Dunlap. She was predeceased by brother, William (Billy) Dunlap, and stepdaughter, Tracie Hedrick.

She served in the medical profession most of her life. She also served as a Lexington City police officer and on the Lexington-Rockbridge Life Saving Squad.

She is survived by beloved husband, Samuel Pusey; daughter, Betty Jo Price; son, John Bowser (Vickie); stepson, Troy Pusey (Nancy); special son, Mike King (Christie); sister, Elizabeth (Libby) Dunlap; brothers, Mac Dunlap (Delores) and Tom Dunlap (Carolyn); stepbrother, Daniel Barger (Sheila); four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 15, at Harrison Funeral Home by the Rev. C.J. Cole and Michael King. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Also, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
