Obituary for Evelyn Roberts Ayers Evelyn Roberts Ayers
Lexington Resident, Lexington Golf and Country Club Employee and Oxford Presbyterian Church Member, Dies At Age 92

Evelyn Roberts Ayers, 92, of Lexington, Virginia, went to be with Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital.

Born June 17, 1934, in Mountain Grove, she was a daughter of David B. Roberts Sr. and Lillian Warwick Roberts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Richard Ayers; her first husband, Robert Byers Black; siblings, Charles Roberts, Sonny Roberts and Betty Huffman; and great- granddaughter, Sawyer Garrett.

Evelyn was a dedicated member of Oxford Presbyterian Church and a retired office staff employee at Lexington Golf & Country Club.

She was an active volunteer in many community organizations. Evelyn greatly loved her family and they cherished every moment with her whether cooking big family meals or just spending time together.

Surviving are her children, Bobby Black (Stephanie) and Richard Black; grandchildren, Katelyn (Dylan), Blaine (Meg), Robby (Haley) and Sydney; great- grandchildren, Haven, Aubrey, Cash, Baker, Brecken, Gannon, Hadley, Barren and Sadie; brothers, Winston "Winky" Roberts and John Roberts (Ellen); brother in law, Dave Huffman; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Carol Hines and Nancy Soukup.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, at Oxford Presbyterian Cemetery by the Rev. Kyle Segars.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oxford Presbyterian Church Permanent Fund, 143 Oxford Lane, Lexington, VA 24450 or ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington, VA 24450.
