Obituary for Darlene “Sue” (Turner) Hise Darlene “Sue” (Turner) Hise
Highland County Native Dies At Age 72

Darlene “Sue” (Turner) Hise, age 72, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026 at the Shenandoah House Hospice Facility in Fishersville.

She was born in Highland County, Virginia, on January 25, 1954, a daughter of the late Helen “Freda” Turner.

On June 8, 1973, she married Clarence “Wilmer” Hise Jr., who preceded her in death on September 2, 2007.

A homemaker, Sue loved watching westerns, Jeopardy and wrestling, as well as listening to country music. She enjoyed traveling home to Highland to visit; and taught her children to play ball. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, who always placed the needs of her children above herself.

In addition to her mother and husband, she was predeceased by an infant sister; and niece, Brittany Young.

She is survived by her two children, Michael “Jason” Hise and wife, Shyla of Mt. Sidney and, Crystal Gayle Hise of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Hunter Christian Hise and Chloe Elizabeth Hise; sisters, Dottie Young of Franklin, W.Va. and Tammy Hoover of Ronceverte, W.Va.; as well as numerous nephews and a niece.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Monday, September 14, 2026 at Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell, with pastor Chip Hill officiating. Interment followed in Green Hill Cemetery, Mill Gap.

Pallbearers will be Bill and Charles Hoover, Lance and Luke Hise, Willie Smith and Don Shown.
