Edith VanNess Hayslett, 78, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

She was born November 15, 1928 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Robert Estil Falls and Minnie Calvin VanNess.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brett Lacy Rowsey.

She is survived by her husband, John Edgar Hayslett, Sr.; her children: Brenda Gail Nuckols and husband, Charlie of Lexington; Emma Mae Rowsey and husband, Ricky of Buena Vista; Lillian Carol Starnes and husband, Ray of Roanoke; Bonnie Kay Hayslett, Fairfield; Edith Josie Smith and husband, Richard of Buena Vista; Melissa Palmer Moore and husband, Greg of Lexington; and John Edgar Hayslett, Jr. of Fairfield; two sisters: Helen Coffey of Glasgow and Loretta Clark of Lexington; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lewis McDaniel and Pastor Jim Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
