Helen Virginia Conner Ayres, 86, of Lexington, died Saturday, October 6, 2007.

Mrs. Ayres was born May 12, 1921 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late John William Conner and Easter Coffey Conner.

She was a member of the Lexington Baptist Church.

Surviving is her husband, Freemont Hunter Ayres; two sons: Clifford Terreyl Ayres of Rocky Mount; Hunter E. (Chipper) Ayres of Lexington; two sisters: Anna Conner of Salma and Betty Smith of Roanoke; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lexington Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Lexington Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
