Ethel Virginia Shifflett died Monday, June 9, 2008 at Shenandoah Valley Healthcare.

She was born July 17, 1937, a daughter of the late Claude and Sue Chaplin.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Chaplin and Claude (Snookie) Chaplin and by several close friends, Ruby Hannah, Helen Moore, Kathleen McDaniel and Christine Johnson.

Mrs. Shifflett was raised in Rockbridge County. She raised three children and worked at the Natural Bridge of Virginia for thirty-two years. She devoted her life to her family and grandchildren and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her sons, Jackson David Shifflett, Jr. and Vickie Foster, Natural Bridge, Michael Jay Shifflett and wife, Belinda, Glasgow; a daughter, Patricia Ann Drake and husband, Steve, Michigan; six grandchildren, Amanda and Amber Shifflett, Kacie and Katey Shifflett, Cody and Taylor Drake; one great-grandchild, Andrew Shifflett.

Also surviving are Bernard and Virginia McGowan, Clara Mae Staton; several close friends, Margaret Miller, Oakley Adams, Dolly Payne and Mrs. Lackey.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dean Staton officiating. Burial will follow in Glasgow Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
