Longtime Extension Agent Operated Agriculture Consulting Business

Harold Nathan "Nate" Repair, 84, of Rockbridge County, died Thursday, September 4, 2008.

He was born August 24, 1924 in Parsons, West Virginia, a son of the late Nathan E. Repair and Hester Parsons Repair.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Hilda Repair and Velma Parsons; and a brother, Paul.

Mr. Reair was a graduate of Parsons High School, and received a B.S. degree from Berea College and an M.S. degree from West Virginia University.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II.

He married Cecilia Stalnaker in 1947. He worked for the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Service as an Agricultural Extension Agent in Somerset County, New Jersey, for 35 years.

Nate retired in 1986 from Rutgers Cooperative Extension as professor emeritus from Rutgers University.

He was operating an agricultural consulting business up to the time of his death.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Cecilia; a son, Jonathan Repair and wife, Judy Carkhuff, of Rockbridge County; a daughter, Janelle Callaway and husband, Scott, of Virginia Beach; grandchildren: Capt. Kelly Repair, USMC, Kate Duke and husband, Adam; Donald Repair; Zachary Callaway; Sarah Callaway; and a niece, Sally Parsons.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the Lexington Presbyterian Church with Dr. William Klein officiating. Burial will be in Parsons City Cemetery, Parsons, West Virginia at 2 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2008.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parsons High School Alumni Association, Parsons, West Virginia 26287; Berea College, Berea, Kentucky 40404 or the Stonewall Jackson House, Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
