He was born February 23, 1939 in Lexington, a son of the late Frederick Curtis Shields and Beulah Wilmer Shields.

Surviving are two daughters: Lisa S. Salopek of Palmyra and Deborah S. Moore of Natural Bridge.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
