Obituary for Martin Luther (Pop) Norcross, Sr. Martin Luther (Pop) Norcross, Sr.
World War II Veteran Was Burlington Retiree

Martin Luther (Pop) Norcross, Sr., 89, of Fairfield, died Sunday, December 14, 2008 in the Golden Living Center.

He was born July 7, 1919 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late John Oliver Norcross and Emma Jane Lyle Norcross.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lissie Clark Norcross and a grandson, Thomas Christopher Seaman.

Mr. Norcross was the last survivor of his immediate family.

He was a member of the McCutchen Presbyterian Church, Buena Vista, and was retired from Burlington Industries.

He was a life member of the Fairfield First Aid and South River District Fire Department.

Mr. Norcross was a World War II Army veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.

Surviving are three children: Martin L. "Pete" Norcross, Jr. and wife, Crickett; Martha N. Seaman and husband, Thomas; Jacqueline M. Norcross and husband, Eugene Fitzgerald, all of Fairfield; two grandchildren: Joseph Michael Seaman of Fairfield and Robyn N. Sherman and husband, Wes, of Stuarts Draft; three great grandchildren: Brittany, Dylan and Kayden Sherman; and his extended family at the Golden Living Center and Rockbridge Area Hospice.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Fairfield Cemetery with Rev. Tony Nix officiating. Pallbearers will be Douglas Norcross, Jackie Heslep, Garland Fitzgerald, Tommy Shaw, Jerry Thorne, and Wes Sherman.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Golden Living Center, 3737 Catalpa Place, Buena Vista, VA 24416 or the Rockbridge Area Hospice, P. O. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington, Virginia.
