Obituary for Lucille Robinson Weikel Lucille Robinson Weikel
Avid Reader Was Still Life Painter

Lucille Robinson Weikel, 98, of 130 E. Gordon St. died Saturday, December 13, 2008 at her home.

Mrs. Weikel was born January 16, 1910 in Alleghany County a daughter of the late William Henry and Mary Ella Robinson Robinson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Ralph Weikel in 1966; her Sister, Elisabeth Cowne, and her son-in-law, Ronald Johnson.

She was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church and had been active in the Women's Society of the church. More recently she had attended First Christian Church.

Mrs. Weikel was an avid reader and also enjoyed nature and her gardening. She had a love of art for all of her life and was an active member of different art classes in the area for a number of years. She was well-known for her still life paintings of flowers and continued to paint well past the age of 90. Her paintings have won numerous awards and have been exhibited in seven private showings during her lifetime.

Surviving are her two Daughters, Ella Perry and her husband, Sharn, of Waynesboro, and Beverly Johnson of Covington; four grandchildren: Steven Edwards and his wife, Terri, of Richmond; Leah Musselman and her husband, Tommy, of Afton; Dana Romanin and her husband, Petri, of Stuarts Draft; and Lora Crawford and her husband, Shannon, of Covington; nine great grandchildren; and her nephew, Jonathan Cowne of Richmond.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating, assisted by the Rev. Michael Snyder.

Interment will be made in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Friends may pay their respects at any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial donations in Mrs. Weikel's name be made to the Alleghany County Humane Society, P.O. Box 60, Low Moor, VA 24457.
