Obituary for Freddie Monroe Lacks Freddie Monroe Lacks
Korean War Veteran Retired From Acadia Polymers

Freddie Monroe Lacks, 75, of 234 West Parrish Street, Covington, died Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor.

Mr. Lacks was born August 28, 1933 in Covington, a son of the late George L. and Mavis Cooper Lacks.

He served with the United States Army during the Korean war.

Mr. Lacks retired from the former Acadia Polymers, Inc. after forty years of service.

He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church. Monroe was an avid bowler and was a member of the Covington Lodge 610, Loyal Order of Moose.

He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lacks was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Lacks.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Edith Persinger Lacks of Covington; one son and daughterŠin-law, Freddie M. Lacks, Jr. and Penny of Covington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Jerry Rucker and Crissy and Ronnie Hoke, all of Covington; four granddaughters: Amanda Gray Rucker; Ann Marie Rucker; Laura Olivia Hoke and Mckenzie Grace Lacks, all of Covington; four grandsons: Adam Tyler Lacks; Shawn Jacob Lacks; Andrew Garland Hoke and Jeremy Lee Rucker, all of Covington; and numerous cousins and aunts.

The funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Price officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Burnham.

The interment will be made in the Alleghany Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Friends may pay their respects anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial donations in Mr. Lacks name by be made to the American Cancer Society, Karen Buzzard, 807 McCormick Blvd, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
