Obituary for Virginia Fann Thomas Virginia Fann Thomas
Was Very Active In The Clifton Forge Community

Virginia Fann Thomas, age 92, of 450 N. McDonald St, Deland, FL, and formerly of Clifton Forge, VA, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in Deland, Florida.

Born on August 5, 1916 in Ashland, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Uriah Fann and Lucy Frances Litsey Fann.

She graduated from Berea Academy and attended Berea College. After graduating from the University Hospital School of Nursing in Augusta, Georgia, she came to Clifton Forge in 1938, where she was a surgical nurse for the former C and O Hospital.

She married F. Norton Thomas, who passed away in 1985, after forty-six years of marriage. They were members of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church for over thirty years.

Virginia was president of the Women of the Church and a Sunday School teacher. They later joined the Oak Hill Bible Church. She was also president of the Clifton Forge Garden Club, president of the Cancer Society, and president of the Garden Council.

Virginia worked over five hundred volunteer hours for the Red Cross bloodmobile and taught Red Cross home nursing classes during World War II.

Since the death of her husband, Virginia has lived at Florida Lutheran Retirement Community with her elder sister, Mary Drew, until her passing on December 15, 2006.

Virginia was lovingly cared for at the Lutheran Health Care Facility for the past three years.

In addition to her parents, husband, and sister, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Fann.

Surviving Mrs. Thomas are her daughters, Patricia Thomas of Williamsburg and Pamela Casazza and her husband Dr. James Casazza of Pelham, New Hampshire; four grandchildren: Virginia Ogren and Thomas Ogren, both of Williamsburg, and Scott Casazza and wife Marilyn and Douglas Norton Casazza, all of Pelham, New Hampshire; and a great granddaughter, Taylor Casazza.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Roger Bush officiating.

Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.

Mrs. Thomas has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016 or to the Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Terrace, Port Orange, FL 32129.
