Steel Worker Was Involved In Area Interstate Bridge Construction

Boyd Kemper Painter, 62, of Vesuvius, died Saturday, December 27, 2008.

He was born April 18, 1947 in Rockbridge County, a son of Eveyln Irene Campbell Painter of Vesuvius and the late Troy Kemper Painter.

In addition to his father, he also was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Painter.

Boyd was a steel construction worker and was involved with most of the bridges of I-81/I-64 in Rockbridge County.

He loved his time spent fishing, hunting and with his two dogs, Biscuit and Jill.

He always gave his God-given talents freely to anyone in need.

Boyd was an avoid reader of all subjects. He simply enjoyed living the mountain lifestyle.

He will be missed by many friends and family members.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two sons: Andrew C. Painter and wife, Jeannie of North Carolina and Keith B. Painter and wife, Kana of Staunton; brothers and sisters: JoAnn Tucker and husband, Marvin of Bedford; Roger Painter and wife, Dora of Big Island; Irene Bradley and husband, Richard of Fairfield; Charles Painter and wife, Audrey of Greenville; Lecy Kitchens and husband, J.T. of Dry Fork; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Mt. Paran Church, Vesuvius with Rev. Billy Coffey officiating.

There will be a covered dish fellowship to follow at the church. Boyd asked for a private burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Fairfield or Montebello Rescue Squad.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
