Obituary for Charlie Herman Goad, Sr. Charlie Herman Goad, Sr.
Spring Valley Baptist Church Founding Member Was Maury River Oil Co. Retiree

Charlie Herman Goad, Sr., 89, of Fairfield, Virginia, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2008.

He was born on February 28, 1919 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Walter and Charity Caroline Johnson Goad.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lutie Davis Goad; brothers: Glenn Goad, Sizer Goad, and Clinton Goad; and sisters: Roche Bowyer and Lila Moore.

Mr. Goad was a founding member of the Spring Valley Baptist Church where he was a deacon, trustee and original treasurer.

He was retired from Maury River Oil Company.

Surviving are his children: Barbara Cole and husband, Bill of New Castle, Va; Bonnie Lonon and husband, Brian of Chesterfield, VA; Charlie Goad Jr. and wife, Delores of Lexington; Betty Wray of Colonial Heights; W. D. Goad and wife, Brenda of Lexington; and Brenda Spillers and husband, Tom of Vesuvius; grandchildren: Dean Cole, Chris Lonon, Valerie Peregoy, Tracy Bond, Jeremy Goad, J. D. Goad, C. J. Goad, Amanda Gaines, Brandy Thore, Ray Clark, Mandi Clark, and Holly Gardner; great grandchildren: Diana Goad, Emma Cole, Daniel Lonon, Campbell Bond, Cameron Gaines, and Hayley Gardner; and sisters: Laura Douty and Mae Camden of Buena Vista; and Frances Lawhorne of Shenandoah.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Spring Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Philip Mace officiating. Burial will follow in the Timber Ridge ARP Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Va.
