World War II Veteran Was Retired CSX Carpenter

Gordon Harris Overstreet, age 90, of 701 Commerce Avenue, Iron Gate, Virginia, died Saturday February 14, 2009 at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor.

He was born May 28, 1918 in Longdale, Virginia, a son of the late Emmett Edgar and Maime Mays Overstreet.

He was a retired carpenter with the C & O Railroad and CSX Transportation, a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way and an Army Veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Alma Clark Overstreet, a brother Emmett E. (Gabby) Overstreet, Jr.; and two sisters, Virginia Campbell and Marie Metz.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Overstreet and Frank Tyree of Iron Gate; and a sister, Hortense Southern, of Hiwassee, Virginia.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the Central Advent Christian Church Cemetery, Clifton Forge, with the Reverend Victor Nicely officiating. The family received friends on Sunday at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, and other times at his residence 701 Commerce Ave., Iron Gate, Virginia.
